Bird Notes

I walked out to the Hinsdale bluffs this afternoon (1/22), just in time to see two adult Bald Eagles sitting side by side on a snag very close to the tree that contains the nest.  As I was watching them, the fog rolled in and they disappeared from view!  There were also 13 Common Mergansers in the river below the bluffs.
---Nori Howe, West Brattleboro, VT

Glaucous, Iceland, and Lesser Black-backed gulls continue to be reported

at Turners Falls, also a Greater Scaup

---RBA Western Mass..

2:30 PM  Friday 13 Jan.    SNOWY-the-unpredictable-OWL has returned to its   stone cave on Young Island's  east shore. It seems to be as cozy and sheltered    from the wind as is the Junco that sleeps nights in a phoebe nest above my cellar   doorway.

---David Hoag, Grand Isle, VT

I wanted to report a pair of Eastern Bluebirds on Pleasant Valley Rd in Saxton's  River. I had a hard time believing what I was seeing, but then the sun caught the  bright blue body. I think they are living off the rose hips in a great thicket of wild  climbers that is by the road.

Cheers,

---Sally Warren

There is a Tufted Duck being seen near the Champlain Bridge. Seems to me that it  was reported there last winter too.
